    The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society will present its popular annual Owl Prowl at the UT Arboretum at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 22.
  • Buggy Buffet!
    On Thursday, October 20, the students of FYS 129 ("A Bug's Life"), will host their fourth annual 'Insect Smorgasbord.'  This is a FREE insect-tasting event where insects will be cooked, served and eaten as a way to demonstrate the importance of insects as food throughout the world.
  • Don’t Miss UT Ag Day October 29
    UT Ag Day is a spirited event that serves as the annual street fair for alumni and friends of the UT Institute of Agriculture. It will be held four hours before the Vols take on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
  • Workshops to Help Beef Producers Market Custom Harvesting and Finishing
    In November and December the University of Tennessee Center for Profitable Agriculture is conducting a set of workshops for cattle producers who are considering marketing live animals to consumers for custom harvesting and as well as those considering finishing cattle to be processed for retail meat sales.
  • UT’s New Dairy to Research Animal and Environmental Best Management Practices
    More than a thousand people turned out for two events celebrating the Grand Openings of the new UT AgResearch dairy - a facility that will emphasize animal comfort and environmental stewardship as part of its overall research effort.  
  • New UT Initiative to Improve Safety of Nation’s Food Supply
    The University of Tennessee Center for Agriculture and Food Security and Preparedness (CAFSP) is projected to receive $6.6 million to develop and deliver high quality training to food safety officials at the local, state and national levels.

  • Tennessee Schedules Tobacco and Forage Field Day for May 13
    The University of Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville will hold its annual Tobacco and Forage Field Day on Thursday, May 13, beginning at 8 a.m.
  • Make Plans to Attend Fruits of the Backyard Field Day
    On June 15 at the UT Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center this free event will offer visitors a chance to learn more about gardening with a special focus on the production of small fruits like blueberries and grapes.
  • CASNR Recruitment Brochure Honored with Public Relations Award
    A student recruitment brochure by the UT Institute of Agriculture ’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) was recently honored with an Award of Excellence from the Volunteer Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Two videos and a magazine were also honored.
  • Southeast Equine Conference to Tackle Difficult Subject of Equine Welfare
    University of Tennessee Extension, in cooperation with a number of other state Extension offices and agencies, is sponsoring a Southeast Equine Conference, Saturday, May 1, on the UT Institute of Agriculture campus in Knoxville.
  • Tennessee Food Safety Task Force to Meet May 12
    Food safety experts will share their insights into environmental monitoring, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the Food and Drug Administration’s vision for food safety, and other complexities faced by the food manufacturing and food service industry at the upcoming Tennessee Food Safety Task Force annual seminar, Wednesday, May 12, in Nashville.
  • Hodges Wins Fulbright, Headed for Slovenia
    Donald G. Hodges, a professor in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources’ Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries, has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for the 2010-2011 academic year.
  • UT Gardens Announces May and Summer Programs of Interest to All Ages
    The UT Gardens announces a number of May events that are open to the public. Some events recur throughout the summer. Many are free of charge, but please note that some are fee-based and require advance registration.
  • Veterinary Social Work Summit to be Held at UT Veterinary College
    Speakers from across the country will present topics on the link between human and animal violence, animal-assisted interactions, grief and loss, and compassion fatigue.The summit will be held in Knoxville, Tennessee, May 13-16.
  • UT Extension Names New Western Region Director
    The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture has named Dr. Ben West to fill the role of Western Region Director for UT Extension.
  • UT Animal Advocate Wins National Award
    Teresa Jennings, program director of CAIT (Companion Animal Initiative of Tennessee) at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine, has received the Hill’s Animal Welfare & Humane Ethics Award.
  • Domestic Kitchen Certification Course to be Offered April 19
    Individuals who use a domestic kitchen to prepare, manufacture and sell food to the public can ensure their facilities meet Tennessee Department of Agriculture regulations through an upcoming certification course to be presented April 19.
  • 31st Annual Open House Scheduled at UT College of Veterinary Medicine
    The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine will hold its annual open house Saturday, April 24 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The free event will take place, rain or shine, on the UT agricultural campus, located on Neyland Drive.

  • Multiple Agencies Take Action to Thwart Invasive Plants
    UT Extension is among a consortium of state and federal agencies, along with several private organizations in Tennessee, who have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to safeguard the state’s resources from the potential impact of the most threatening non-native invasive plants.

  • 20th Annual UT Summer Celebration Lawn and Garden Show is Sure to Sizzle
    The 20th Annual Summer Celebration takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center. Dozens of plant and garden experts will be on hand, presenting information on topics that range from “Layer Cake Gardening” to “Roses that Rock Your World.”
  • UT Gardens’ Plant of the Month for June: Mexican Feather Grass
    Mexican Feather Grass is one of the most beautiful of all the ornamental grasses. Throughout the summer, the plant will grow in vase-like clumps that bear a profusion of feathery panicles spilling outward like a soft fountain.

  • New Conference Targets Women in Small Businesses and Agriculture
    Problems faced by small, women-owned businesses, particularly agriculturally based enterprises, will be the focus of a new conference being conducted by University of Tennessee Extension experts. “Homefront to Heartland: Financial Education for Women in Small Business and Agriculture,” will be presented on the UT Institute of Agriculture campus in Knoxville on Saturday, March 21, 2009, beginning at 9 a.m.
