- Workshops Planned for Small Farm Enterprises
The “Developing Successful Small Farm Enterprises” workshop series will begin January 28, 2010, and continue on consecutive Thursday nights through February 25. The workshop locations will rotate between Columbia, Pulaski and Lawrenceburg. - New DOE Grant Expands East Tennessee Switchgrass Research
to Almost 7000 Acres
The UT Biofuels Initiative continues to be recognized as among the nation’s leaders in the development of biofuels. On November 12, USDA and DOE announced a new round of $24 million in research grants, and the UTBI is slated to receive some $2.35 million in funding to research and demonstrate various aspects of switchgrass production, harvesting and transportation logistics and ethanol yield for some 2000 acres of locally produced switchgrass. - UT Extension Beef Experts/County Agents Study at USDA Facility in Nebraska

Holiday Express at the UT Gardens, an event for the entire family, opens Thanksgiving weekend from 12-8 p.m. November 25-28, and 12-6 p.m. November 29. Thereafter, Holiday Express will be open 12-8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 12-6 p.m. on Sundays December 4 through January 3, 2010. - UT Gardens’ Plant of the Month for November: Coral Bark Maple

Thirty-eight area farmers received acceptance letters into the University of Tennessee’s second season of a switchgrass farmer incentive program. UTIA announced that the non-profit group “Partners of the Cherokee National Forest” is donating $5,075 to the Lindsay Young Beneficial Insects Laboratory at the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Knoxville.
