Second Horse Round Table Scheduled

(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) - Horse owners and those interested in horses are invited to attend a Horse Round Table on December 2, 2003, on the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture campus.

Registration will begin at 6:15 p.m. in Room 212, Brehm Animal Science Building.

"The purpose of the Horse Round Table is to provide horse owners with precise up-to-date information on topics of current importance and interest," said Dr. Frederick Harper, UT Extension horse specialist in the Department of Animal Science. Topics to be discussed are feeding your horse in winter, West Nile Virus, Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis, the economical importance of horses and horse facilities. There is no cost to attend the program.

Harper said 100 percent of the attendees at last year's inaugural program requested additional Round Tables.

Speakers for this year's event include Mannie Bedwell, Hamblen County Extension director; John Goddard, Loudon County Extension director; Joe Hall, Anderson County Extension agent; Harper; and Jonathan Rhea, Jefferson County Extension director.

The Horse Round Table is sponsored by the UT Agricultural Extension Service Smoky Mountain District and the UT Department of Animal Science. After the presentations and a refreshment break, a panel of experts will answer questions from the audience.

The UT Agricultural campus is located in Knoxville on Neyland Drive. The Brehm Animal Science Building is the first building on the left as you enter the campus. Free parking is available in the lot in front of the building.

For additional information contact your county Extension agent or Harper at 865-974-7295. You may also visit the animal science Web site at: http://animalscience.ag.utk.edu/.
