Prawn Production Conference Scheduled for October    


(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) - The 4th Annual Tennessee Prawn Conference will convene in Knoxville on October 16, 2003. The two-day event will begin with registration at 9:00 a.m. on October 16 and conclude at noon on October 17. The conference will take place in the new Biotechnology Building on the agricultural campus of the University of Tennessee.

Speakers from Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas who are actively involved in prawn research or prawn reproduction will present useful information for both experienced prawn producers and for those who are trying to decide whether prawn production would be advantageous. Research results from work with prawn at UT as well as from several other institutions will be presented.

Conference topics will include management methods that may boost production efficiency, including brookstock and hatchery management, nursery management, production pond management, feeds and nutrition, harvest and handling practices, permitting requirements, by-product utilization, marketing and economics.

A trade show featuring equipment and supplies used in prawn farming will be adjacent to the building. Lunch will be served on Thursday.

The registration fee is $45.00. A $35.00 fee is available for a spouse or anyone attending who does not need a notebook. The notebook includes up-to-date prawn information, publications and suppliers of prawn products.

Space is limited to 75 people, so preregister no later than October 9.
