Veterinary Faculty Receives Award    

Photo: Dr. D. J. Krahwinkel(Knoxville, TN.) (Knoxville, TN.) Dr. D. J. Krahwinkel, a professor of small animal surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, has received the Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teacher Award from Pfizer Health Corporation. The Norden award is given to educators in recognition of their character and leadership qualities as well as their outstanding teaching abilities. This is the second time Krahwinkel has won the award. “It’s great to win this award twice—once at the beginning of my career and once near the end of my career."

Dr. Krahwinkel has been at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine since 1975. He earned his DVM degree from Auburn University in 1966 and his MS degree from Michigan State University in 1973. He is a Diplomate with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologist and the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. His general interest is that of soft tissue surgery with specific interest in cardiovascular and reconstructive surgical diseases. Additional primary interests include traumatology and critical care.
