KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Carol White, University of Tennessee student in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, was appointed to the UT Board of Trustees on July 11. The 24-member Board governs the five-campus system and has one student representative. Governor Phil Bredesen made the appointment. White is a student at UT-Knoxville majoring in food science and technology,
with a concentration in pre-pharmacy and minors in biology and chemistry.
She is a Whittle Scholar and is enrolled in the UT Honors Program. White,
20, serves as vice chairperson of the Undergraduate Academic Council,
is a White grew up on a farm in Pelham, Tennessee. She says she always loved the University of Tennessee and looks forward to being the student voice and vote in the BOT. “As the BOT student representative, I want to ensure that students have the opportunity to voice their concerns and get the vital information they need to make positive decisions about our university,” White said. Dr. David A. Golden, Associate Professor of Food Science and Technology and Associate Director of the University Honors Program, has known White since she was in high school. He was introduced by her older sisters when they were UT students. “She is one of the most genuinely friendly, compassionate, and energetic people I know,” Golden said. “Having met her entire family, I can tell you that Carol's attitude, positive outlook and desire to serve others are not pretentious, but rather, the product of excellent upbringing and deeply rooted faith. I have rarely seen her without her trademark winning smile. “Carol will work tirelessly and unselfishly to fulfill her role on the Board of Trustees. She will represent the student body and UT with distinction,” Golden said.
