From kitchen gardens to purple martins, the topics at the annual Summer Celebration should interest lawn and gardening enthusiasts of all ages. Sponsored by the University of Tennessee West Tennessee Experiment Station in Jackson, this year’s Summer Celebration is planned for Thursday, July 10, 2003. Registration is free and begins at 12:30 p.m. CDT. Sessions with experts from UT and the local area are planned to begin at 1:00, with the last talks scheduled to begin at 7:00. Many of the sessions are scheduled for indoor venues. Last year almost 1500 visitors participated in station tours and special presentations about popular landscape topics. The event will also feature a number of area nurseries and landscape businesses that will sell and exhibit their wares, and the West Tennessee 4-H All Stars will operate a concession stand. Visitors are encouraged to bring insect- and disease-damaged plants to a diagnostic clinic for evaluation and treatment recommendations. The West Tennessee Experiment Station is located at 605 Airways Blvd. For more information or a map to the station, call 731-424-1643 or visit the Web site: http://www.taes.utk.edu/stations/wtes. The West Tennessee Experiment Station is one of eleven research units operated by the University of Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station system. # # # Contact: Patricia Clark McDaniels, 865-974-7141 |
