University of Tennessee officials hosted an enthusiastic group of some 125 dairy farmers, Blount County leaders, and representatives from state government and the agricultural industry on Friday, Sept. 30, as the University officially opened its new research dairy. - UT Center for Renewable Carbon Named as Lead Institution for $15 Million USDA Grant
Dr. Tim Rials, director of the UT Center for Renewable Carbon, will coordinate a $15 million grant from USDA to support the development of sustainable regional bioenergy production systems.

Rooguchi is a cross between a shrubby clematis C. integrifolia and a vining form, C. reticulata. As a result, this sprawling character is good for effects like tumbling over a retaining wall or even out of a large container. - UT Extension Trains Tennessee Teachers in Financial Curriculum
Family and consumer experts with UT Extension will spend part of their summer offering Tennessee teachers training regarding money management. - Trapping Gets Underway for Tree Pest in East Tennessee
Purple three-sided traps that resemble a box kite can be seen in ash trees in Knox, Loudon and surrounding counties in the next few months as part of a surveillance program for the insect pest Emerald Ash Borer. The survey is being conducted by state and federal agencies.

- New Conference Targets Women in Small Businesses and Agriculture
Problems faced by small, women-owned businesses, particularly agriculturally based enterprises, will be the focus of a new conference being conducted by University of Tennessee Extension experts. “Homefront to Heartland: Financial Education for Women in Small Business and Agriculture,” will be presented on the UT Institute of Agriculture campus in Knoxville on Saturday, March 21, 2009, beginning at 9 a.m.
