(Jackson, TN) - The fruit of the fall season will take center stage at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center on Wednesday October 8th, as the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture presents UT Pumpkin Field Day 2008.  This “first of its kind” event will feature seminars on an assortment of topics involving the pumpkin.

Led by UT Extension Vegetable Specialist Annette Wszelaki, Pumpkin Field Day will showcase the innovative research being conducted at the University of Tennessee.  Visitors can find out which pumpkin varieties fared best in the 2008 trial studies. They can also discover which varieties can best fight off disease.  And producers will have a chance to learn about weed control in the pumpkin patch as well.

Although UT Pumpkin Field Day is an event to educate and inform commercial pumpkin producers, there are sessions that everyone can enjoy, including a seminar focused on unique pumpkin varieties.  Given by UT horticulturalist Jason Reeves, the session is titled “Beyond the Jack-‘o-Lantern” and will feature great tips on creating spectacular autumn displays.

UT Pumpkin Field Day will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Wednesday October 8th, rain or shine.  The field day will be located at UT’s West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center at 605 Airways Boulevard in Jackson.
