UT's Northeast Beef Expo Scheduled for October 9  

(GREENEVILLE, Tenn.) Cattle producers interested in protecting their investment during difficult times will want to attend the 2008 Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo. Scheduled for Oct. 9, the day-long event will be held at the University of Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville.

Registration and a trade show will begin at 7:00 a.m., and the program will begin at 8:00. The cost to attend the day-long program is $10, which includes a luncheon. Participants are asked to pre-register with a local UT Extension office by Thursday, September 26.

Producers will have the opportunity to learn first hand from UT Extension specialists about new methods and techniques that can help achieve more efficient and profitable operations. Topics to be discussed include capitalizing on adversity, animal handling and safety, alternative hay feeding systems, managing fuel and fertilizer in forage production and pre-conditioning and low stress weaning.

This year's guest speaker will be Raymond Cooper, a Cannon County, Tennessee, beef producer and the 2007 Governor's Environmental Award Winner for Excellence in Agriculture and Forestry.

The event is co-sponsored by UT Extension Eastern Region, and the UT AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville.

The UT AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville is located off U.S. Highway 70 approximately 5 miles south of Greeneville on East Allens Bridge Road.
