UT Conference to Discuss the Future of
the Dairy Industry

On June 6, 2007, the University of Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station will present a conference for dairy professionals. Cutting-edge information will be available to help producers enhance their operations and dispel some concerns about the future of the industry.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • can value be added to fluid milk by improvement in milk quality?
  • can Southeast fluid milk be appropriately valued?
  • as gender-selected semen becomes readily available, will producers be ready?

The conference will include a trade show, which will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Participating vendors will share the latest technology relating to such topics as genetics and breeding management, herd health, milk quality enhancement, and the use of commodities for feed cost containment, just to name a few.

The conference will be held at the UT Dairy Research and Education Center in Lewisburg, which is located south of Nashville off Interstate 65 on US Highway 31A. More details and a map are available online at http://dairy.tennessee.edu/.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Dairy Research and Education Center and the Middle Tennessee Research and Education Center. Both facilities are part of the 10-site Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station system, which supports research for the benefit of Tennessee's diversified agriculture and natural resource industries. At the centers, scientists and students are able to test their ideas and hypotheses under real-life conditions.
