Draughon Named NAFSS Center Director
   

Dr. F. Ann Draughon, professor in the University of Tennessee Department of Food Science and Technology, and co-director of the university's Food Safety Center of Excellence.

(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) - Ann Draughon, professor in the University of Tennessee Department of Food Science and Technology, and co-director of the university's Food Safety Center of Excellence, has been elected to serve as the Center Director for the National Alliance for Food Safety and Security Center for Microbial Physiology and Ecology.

NAFSS is a network of 19 universities and three U.S. Department of Agriculture agencies: the Agricultural Research Service, the Food Safety and Inspection Service, and the Cooperative State, Research, Education and Extension Service.

The organization enables participating universities and USDA to focus their collective scientific expertise and resources on all aspects of food safety. NAFSS' mission is to continually improve and enhance the safety of the national and international food supply and ensure the public's health. Its goal is to initiate food-safety projects, assuring the highest applicability to food safety problems.

In her role as center director of the Center for Microbial Physiology and Ecology, Draughon will provide leadership in promoting the development of inter-institutional collaboration and facilitate communication among center members.
