Swimming and hiking -- yes. But activities at Tennessee's 4-H Camps and Conferences involve more than just the traditional summer favorites. How about soap sliding? Creek stomping? Testing electromagnetic engines? Offered through University of Tennessee Extension, in 2006 more than 20,000 youth attended some 80 programs at Tennessee 4-H's Camps and Conferences. This year promises to be even more popular. Besides the traditional camps, 4-H offers specialty camps focusing on wildlife, fashion and design, electric energy, shooting sports, the environment, and technology. 4-H programs are available for students from K through 12. Sign-ups have started, but a limited number of spaces may still be available. Contact your county UT Extension office or one of the four 4-H Centers for more information. Visit the Tennessee 4-H web site at http://www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/ for year-round 4-H program opportunities. ###
